I am a political scientist in training, the emphasis
on my major: international relations captivates me. I love traveling, knowing
new places, trying different food and taking a lot of photos. I visited Taiwan
for an academic mission from the university. I went with some friends and a
teacher. Our stay in this island lasted 10 days and on the eighth we went to
Modern Toilet restaurant in Taipei City. It is an exotic place where the theme
is toilets!
Some months before the trip I was watching a program
on Travel and Living Channel about strange restaurants and there they showed
the Modern Toilet. I was very curious about this place and from that moment I
wanted to visit it. However, a couple of days before the trip my mom was
looking for information about Taiwan on the internet and reminded me that there
was this restaurant. So she advised me to talk with the teacher to take us to know
this place because it would be a great experience.
After several amazing tours for some cities of the
island, the day came when we would visit this restaurant. We were very anxious.
We arrived walking with the help of GPS. The restaurant was in a corner and on
its facade highlighted a big white toilet and signs with lights. The Modern
Toilet restaurant has three floors and from the first one we could see seats in
the form of golden toilets. I was very shocked, excited and anxious to enter.
All the decoration
was amazing. Walls, tables, seats, ceiling and the bathroom had the same
strange theme. We were looking for a big table, and in its center, there was a
poop, our seats had shells in different colors, the lamps were shaped like poop, the stair railings had water pipes and the walls had many drawings of toilets and poops.
Like all the people in Taiwan, the waiters are very
friendly. However, we could not talk much with them because there were a lot of
people in the restaurant and they should serve all customers. They brought the
menu and surprisingly there was pasta! Almost all food in Asia is strange. There
was a lot of raw sea food in several restaurants for people choose the ones
they want to prepare for them, snakes and mice in fish tanks, ducks hung on
hooks with their internal parts on large trays, dumplings with different
ingredients inside them and other types of typical foods.
As we were not accustomed to seeing and eating those
things, we wanted to eat “normal food” with good flavor. We ordered pasta,
although there was also typical Taiwanese food. It was served in dishes shaped
like bathroom sinks. The drink was served in urinal shaped glasses and the ice cream,
in the form of poop, was served on a plate shaped like a squat toilet. A friend
ordered ice cream, it was a giant dish. It brought a lot of ice cream, gummies,
marshmallows and chocolates.
Some ordered carbonara pasta. It had cream, spices and
pieces of ham. It was really delicious. During our stay at the restaurant, I
took lots of pictures of everything. After we finished eating, we went to the
real bathroom; the bath sink was shaped like a big toilet, the water came out
of the lid and fell into the rate bath.
When we were leaving the restaurant, we saw some
souvenirs. There were cuddly toys in the form of a poop, small toilets that
spring water jets, pens with poops, key chains shaped poop or toilets and squat
toilets with poops –like the ice cream-.
I really recommend this restaurant, is an awesome
experience. We enjoyed it very much and had very good memories.
